Beauty Product Review : Clay Esthe EX Shampoo And Pack

Hello, Beauty Queens and Chic Geeks!

Last time, we talked about solutions for our dry skin. This time, we’ll talk about options for our dry hair!

Because I’m a freak about my hair, this particular topic will be broken up into two segments. Today, we’ll be taking a closer look at Japan’s Clay Esthe EX line of shampoo and pack.

I love the sea green color!

Yes, this stuff is pricey but it is worth every single penny!

General Thoughts

This line utilizes an exotic array of ingredients like natural clay (specifically Tanakura clay. More on this in a second), deep sea minerals, squalene and yarrow to battle a variety of hair and SCALP issues.

I’ve never before come across a product that will deep condition dry hair while sucking the grease out of oily scalps as it battles dandruff. As if that isn’t enough, all this deep cleansing and declogging of excess oil means promotion of new hair growth. This means it’s great news for people with thinning hair.

Tanakura Clay is a deep sea clay that has charcoal properties. That means it is a super effective at removing oil and cleaning the scalp while it nourishes the hair follicles and scalp by depositing beneficial deep sea minerals.

Yarrow has astringent qualities. This is an ingredient that caught my eye because I have super oily scalp.

Squalene is like a moisturizer on steroids. No, there are no steroids in the product so don’t freak out. I’m just saying this is super moisturizer that not only is fast absorbing but it protects your hair from UV rays and boasts having both antibacterial and antioxidant properties. Not too shabby, eh?

Both shampoo and pack have the same scent. It’s hard to describe it in exact terms. It’s kind of mineral-y, earthy and herbal-y…but not in an unpleasant way.

If you don’t particularly care for the smell, rest assured that it doesn’t saturate your hair and lurk around you for the entire day. It fades away as soon as my hair dries and my my hair is left smelling like me.

If you’re looking for a shampoo or conditioner for it’s smell but NOT it’s effectiveness, allow me to point you in the direction of Herbal Essence. That stuff ranks #1 on my list of stuff that smells great but does absolutely jack for my hair.

Clay Esthe EX Shampoo

This stuff comes in 3 different sizes. The smallest size is 350ml but there are professional sized bottles as well as a refill packages. A pump for the professional size is available.

The consistency of this shampoo isn’t watery. It tends to run a bit on the thicker side, kind of like thin custard.

It lathers nicely but you don’t feel like you’re drowning in suds.

Clay Esthe EX Pack

I got the little jar which weighs in at 300 grams. Don’t be fooled by its size!! A little bit of this stuff goes a long way! I have hair that nearly reaches my waist and I have a lot of hair. I only need a little more than a half dollar sized amount to cover my scalp and comb through to the ends.

This stuff is also VERY very thick!! The consistency is like really thick pudding.

Here’s a heads up when you use this stuff – your scalp will tingle!

I didn’t expect that but it was a nice little bonus. It’s a nice tingle, not the kind of tingle that makes you think your skin is about to ignite in flames. It was very refreshing for my scalp.

You’re supposed to leave this on for 5 minutes but sometimes I’ll cheat only keep it on for 3 minutes. I’ll wash my hair, massage the pack on to my scalp, pile my hair on my head and kind of smush everything around. I then get to work washing the rest of my body. One minute with the Clarisonic for my face, 3 minutes on my body and one minute rinsing everything off = approximately 5 minutes.

By then, the heat from the shower will have mind of melted the pack into something slightly more liquid and I’m able to comb it through with my fingers.

It rinses clean and doesn’t leave any kind of weird residue.

Final Thoughts

I LOVE THIS STUFF!!! I used to have to wash my hair almost twice a day because my scalp churns out that much oil. 😦

After using this shampoo with the pack, I can go two days easily without having to wash my hair! My ends no longer resemble crispy, fried noodles and the hair by my scalp no longer try to dread themselves into greasy ropes.

My hair feels softer and healthier. It also revived my nearly 1 year old digital perm. The curls hold up a lot better and have better bounce without having to use any tools to shape the curls.

I recently ran out of the shampoo and used Dove Moisturizing Shampoo in conjunction with the pack.

The pack still worked great without the Clay Esthe EX Shampoo.

Therefore, if I could only afford one product, I would splurge on the Clay Esthe EX Pack and save money with a shampoo.
